Heron Hideaway - the best view of the marsh on Tybee Island !

During the summer the sun is a huge red ball that sets over the Back River and Marsh.  We have several homes on the marsh where you can watch sunset daily, but none quite as spectacular as the view from the new deck from the back of Heron Hideaway which is located in the central part of the island on 10th Street and the marsh here on Tybee Island.

The new deck is off the Master Bedroom on the third floor- which makes this an ideal location for a family or a couple just looking for a getaway with a most romantic view!

This is how the back deck looks. Doesn't it look like the perfect place to enjoy that nice chilled glass of Chardonnay?

Thank you Char for putting such a great new addition to your beach house!

Cleaning products I love for our cottages.

I just love to wash clothes, linens, towels etc.  Mermaid Manor is large enough upstairs to be able to have 3 drying racks so I can air dry all my laundry. Nothing feels better then those 100% cotton crisp sheets when the heat index is over 100 degrees in July.  A really special day is when I pull out my Irish Linen Sheets that are almost 10 years old- Crisp, white and comfy as can be!  Here is the  picture of my assortment of my favorite Laundry products.

So imagine my excitement when I can across a cleaning and laundry products that Method makes. If you don't know Method, it's worth checking them out. Not only are the green products, but so concentrated that you only need a very small cap full. And here's even more exciting news- they have a brand new product where you only need 4 pumps from the bottle!!!  I promise , this is not a paid endoresment - but if you go to their website Methodlaundry , you can get a $2.00 off coupon!

The website is just a happy place, nice music, great explanation about the product and you feel like you're doing something good for the earth by buying their product.  Enjoy!

Ruby Throated Hummingbirds on Tybee Island

It seems that every summer hummingbirds make their way thru Tybee Island.  They actually can be here up until the end of October as they make their way  south.   I have so many birds that enjoy my bird bath here at Mermaid Manor, I decided to pick up a hummingbird feeder so they will hopefully stop and enjoy a sip of that bright red nectar. Quite the adventure making the nectar, but now the feeder is up and we're just waiting for the birds to arrive! The feeder sits right outside my office window so I really hope to be able to keep my eyes open for the fun little birds!!!

There is an excellent website all about Georgia Hummingbirds that you should visit to see what you can do to encourage more of these birds to come and enjoy your yards.

Hopefully I'll have some pictures to share of my newest visitors!

One of our favorite guest pictures!

How cute is this guest!  He's posing very happily at Star Cottage!  Here's what his mom had to say:
"we just wanted to say that the star cottage was far more than what we expected! this was our first family vacation with our two boys and it was so lovely! fully stocked with everything we needed and more! quiet and private. a very at home feel! the beds were comfortable and the water was hot! my oldest son (3 years) has been asking to go back to the "beach house" every since we got back! he loves to tell everyone he had his own bed, and own TV (he slept out in the sun room on the daybed). it was clean, comfortable, and very well decorated! thanks so much for a lovely first trip to tybee island! "

Thank you to the Cartin Family!  We look forward to welcoming you back to Tybee again soon!

Sea Turtles on Tybee Island and in the Gulf

Those of you who follow Mermaid Cottages Vacation Rentals on Facebook saw my big news- on Tuesday I found the 4th Loggerhead Sea Turtle Nest of the Tybee season!  I was so excited and thrilled!!!   "my" babies will be hatching in about 60 days and I'll be part of the nest sitting to wait for those eggs to hatch and run to the sea!  We had to relocate the nest- the nest was laid too close to the water line and a very high tide would sweep the eggs away. These are the 105 eggs ( they look and feel like ping pong balls!)

It's so important that we keep our Tybee Sea Turtles going- in the Gulf- because of the oil spill- they've already found 400 Sea turtles dead and are estimating they'll lose 70,000 eggs this season.  You can help alot of ways- the biggest is to make a donation.  I'm suggesting the National Fish and  Wildlife Federation who has a massive program to help the creatures who have been affected so strongly.

And don't forget- all profits from the coffee we're selling ( and providing in the cottages) Mermaid Morning Bliss goes towards helping Sea Turtles around the world.  For the next few months, those profits will go to the Gulf Sea Turtles.

Remember- Lights out for Sea Turtles from now till the end of October!!!

The pure magic of Layla and Kevin

I have a feeling I'm going be doing nothing but sharing these incredible pictures everywhere I can day by day because I'm so in love with them!  The color, the light, the styling- Kevin and Layla are artists in the truest sense.   I believe Kevin took about 10,000 pictures during his 3 weeks here on Tybee and this is just the tip of the iceberg!!

This is the living room of Screened Inn- the top of the  TV cabinet with some simple jars with sand and some Tybee Island seashells...

I also hope all of you are following me on Twitter and on Facebook ( Mermaid Cottages Vacation Rentals) because I was mobile tweeting and facebooking all morning while on my bike watch The Last Song Church being moved!  What a sight!!!

Time for bed- it's been a very exciting day!
